ClimateChangePost

Making science accessible to a wide audience

ClimateChangePost brings together the latest scientific insights on climate change and adaptation in one place. The site is an important source of knowledge for anyone seeking quick and well-founded insight into the impact of climate change in Europe. Policymakers, scientists, businesses, and citizens use the platform as a gateway to reliable information.

The challenge

The technology behind ClimateChangePost was outdated. The content was still rock solid, but the platform itself could use a major upgrade.

Together with founder Wilfried ten Brinke, with whom we have been working for over ten years, we went back to the drawing board. What should ClimateChangePost be in today's digital landscape? And how do we ensure that the platform can continue to thrive for years to come?

Data migrations

The biggest challenge was the volume and diversity of content. ClimateChangePost consists of thousands of articles, theme pages, country-specific analyses, and infographics. All this information had to be carefully migrated to a new structure, allowing users to quickly find what they are looking for.

We set up a scalable architecture that is both future-proof and flexible enough to add new content types or features. Thanks to the use of Wagtail as a CMS, managing the complex content structure has now become a lot easier.

Interactive map

On an interactive map of Europe, articles can be filtered by country. After selecting a country, the country page displays a structured overview of the various current topics in that country.

Dark mode

The dark mode feature allows users to switch to a dark color scheme, with a dark background and text and other elements displayed in lighter shades. This option is designed to improve the user experience, especially in low-light environments.

With this feature, we increase accessibility and ease of use, allowing each user to customize the interface to their personal preferences and needs.

Highlights

  • Migration of thousands of articles and infographics

Result

The revamped ClimateChangePost is fast, clear, and ready for growth. The site scores excellently in performance analyses such as Google Lighthouse and offers a much better experience on mobile and tablet. Accessibility has been improved, and the new structure makes the platform even more valuable for visitors from all over Europe.

For us, this was more than just a technical assignment. ClimateChangePost's mission fits seamlessly with what we stand for at Leukeleu: sustainable digital solutions that contribute to a smart and livable future. We are therefore proud to be working on this project.
