SoftwareOne’s Zyncc Analysis Engine

Insight into software usage, control over licenses

Zyncc Analysis Engine gives organizations control over complex license information by automatically analyzing contractual and technical data from various sources and translating it into specific opportunities to avoid costs and save money.

Together with SoftwareOne, we are building a platform that enables cost optimization, compliance, and strategic IT management. Scalable, open, and designed for impact.

About SoftwareOne

SoftwareOne (> 9,000 FTEs, revenue 1.1 billion) is a leading global provider of end-to-end software and cloud technology solutions. The company helps organizations procure, manage, optimize, and implement software and cloud strategies. With a presence in more than 90 countries and deep expertise in both license management and digital transformation, SoftwareOne supports customers in realizing maximum value from their IT investments.

The challenge

Software licenses are often an elusive part of IT management. Organizations struggle with fragmented data about hardware, software, and usage rights. As a result, a lot of value remains untapped, or financial, legal, and/or operational risks arise due to license terms being exceeded.

Zyncc Analysis Engine changes all that. As part of the broader Zyncc Platform -a suite for Software Asset Management that was even mentioned by Gartner in their Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management - we jointly developed the Zyncc Analysis Engine. A platform that enables in-depth analysis based on data from a variety of sources, helping you make decisions about IT assets.

The approach

Together with b.lay, now part of SoftwareOne, we started developing the platform around 2015. Over the years, the platform has evolved technically in line with changing requirements and infrastructures. What remained was the collaboration: intensive, iterative, and focused on impact.

We built an “analysis engine” that automatically processes, combines, and enriches hardware and software data. This includes data from tools such as RVtools, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SSCM), HP Universal Discovery (UD), data from traditional Software Asset Management tools such as Flexera, Snow License Manager, ServiceNow SAM Pro, or license information about Oracle, SAP, IBM, Microsoft, and VMware. The analysis engine makes this data visible in dashboards and reports, enabling organizations to gain control over their software licenses and IT landscape.

Key features

  • Automatic data collection and analysis: Data is collected and analyzed from various tools and sources, fully automated
  • Knowledge building in a closed-open source community: Under the hood, Zyncc Analysis Engine uses open source principles. Development takes place in a protected environment, with shared standards and knowledge building about software licenses
  • Holistic view of the IT landscape: The engine provides a coherent overview of the IT environment. This helps in making strategic decisions about software use and cost optimization.
  • Reusable analyses for large organizations: The platform is used for multiple customers, with an approach that is scalable for complex enterprise environments. By performing an analysis periodically, developments over time also become transparent.

Result

The Zyncc Analysis Engine is now used structurally by large organizations with complex licensing structures. Thanks to the tooling, they can:

  • demonstrate that an end user is (or is not) operating in accordance with the software supplier's terms and conditions,
  • prevent over-licensing and double costs,
  • and negotiate more effectively with software suppliers.

The engine not only helps with operational efficiency, but also supports strategic decisions about IT modernization and cloud transitions.

For Fortune 500 clients, we perform complex analyses on datasets of >90 GB (24,000+ files). What used to take three months with six people now takes one analyst 1.5 weeks - thanks to Zyncc Analysis Engine: 90% faster, cheaper, and more accurate.
